Casualisation of Labour

The Branch anti-casualisation claim in support of improving employment policies and practices for associate lecturers was strongly endorsed by the branch membership in February 2021 and is now with Human Resources. 

 

Led by Matt Wilkins, BSU@UCU are calling for a review of current University practices with a view to:

 

Moving associate lecturers from insecure (hourly-paid) contracts to salaried, fractional positions to improve job security and open up opportunities for career development.

Gaining greater transparency and consistency as regards current contracts, particularly with a view to ending contracts being open to the vagaries of individual subject leaders. 

Introducing a standardised notice period to ensure a fair notice period is given for both employment or the intention not to re-employ associate lecturers. 

Stamp Out Casualisation is UCU's campaign to win continuity of employment and fairer contracts for casualised staff.

 

The campaign against casualisation is one of UCU's national priorities.
